Lucretia Jones

Lucretia Jones
Lucretia is a wise woman herbalist and has been on the plant path for over twenty years. She graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1998 with a BFA in sculpture. Soon after, while living an artist’s life in New York City, her father passed away three days prior to the World Trade Center collapse in 2001. That uncertainty inspired her towards more autonomy and connection with the natural world. The early days of this quest led her to an apprenticeship with Susun Weed in upstate New York where she discovered a love for connecting people with the plants living right outside their door. Lucretia’s favorite times are spent meeting new and old plant friends wherever she happens to be. Sharing those relationships with other humans led her to create House of Lukaya in 2003. House of Lukaya is a mobile and online source for plant medicine workshops, incense twists, handicrafts, and pocket guides to Nourishing Herbal Infusions and Community Herbalism. Lucretia became a mom and moved to Washington DC in 2013. While there, she nurtured medicinal gardens and served as treasurer at Wangari Gardens. She has served on the board of Herbalists Without Borders since 2015. In 2019, she and her partner purchased land in Virginia where they are building a solar and rain powered homestead from scratch. She was honored to accomplish a decades long goal and completed the 200 hour Mindfulness and Leadership Teacher Training with Mahavira Yoga in 2021.

We are honored to have Lucretia join our teacher line-up for 2024. She will be teaching the following classes:

Elements of Community Herbalism - Intensive

Let’s share people’s medicine. In these sessions, we gather together in circle, a space where we honor not only ourselves but also our esteemed teachers, the community gathered, and the profound lineage of beings who have walked this land before us, as well as those who will walk it in the future.

In the heart of this circle, we foster a deep awareness that serves as the foundation for our dialogue with the natural world. It's through this profound connection that we nurture and cultivate our relationships with the vibrant green beings that surround us.

Drawing upon the richness of our seven senses, we breathe, listen, feel, see, touch, smell, and taste, immersing ourselves fully with the plants both in our immediate presence and within the realms of our imaginations.

As we engage in this sacred communion, participants are invited to play and craft their own herbal remedy, a tangible expression of our deepening connection with the green world. This remedy, imbued with intention and reverence, becomes a potent ally on our journey toward wellness and wholeness. Together, we will embrace the power of shared medicine, weaving threads of healing and unity and honoring the intricate web of life that sustains us all.

Earth, Wind, and Fire: An Incense Making Gathering

Drawing upon my two decades of expertise in crafting artisanal incense, I warmly extend an invitation to embark on a journey into the world of incense making. Throughout this immersive experience, I aim to offer a comprehensive introduction, providing hands-on practice, fostering creativity, and encouraging insightful discussions.

Together, we'll delve into the enchanting realm where fragrant smoke meets the senses, where the elements of earth, air, and fire intertwine to create something truly magical. Join me as we unravel the mysteries of incense, exploring not only its tangible properties but also its profound metaphysical and medicinal qualities.

We begin our journey by tuning into the rhythm of our breath, a gateway to heightened awareness and attunement. With every inhalation and exhalation, we'll cultivate a connection with each ingredient, allowing our intuition to guide us in crafting our own harmonious blends.

At the heart of our exploration lies a deep reverence for the aromatic herbs and resins that form the backbone of incense. I'll supply red cedar shavings straight from my family's homestead, along with an array of herbs and resins to choose from. Throughout our time together, there'll be plenty of room for both group chats and personal reflection.
