Micro-dosing Psilocybin with Chronic Illness:  Finding the Sacred in Normality

Lori Roop

Hi, I’m Lori Roop from Vital Roots Herbal Care.  I’m a Certified Clinical Herbalist and Clinical Nutritionist that specializes in chronic illnesses like Lyme, CIRS (Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome) aka mold illness, MCAS (Mast Cell Activation Syndrome), POTS, optimizing digestion, unexplained fatigue and more – and I’ve been practicing for over 15 years.

Today, I want to talk about my class for Red Earth, “Micro-dosing Psilocybin with Chronic Illness:  Finding the Sacred in Normality”.  What exactly does that title mean?  To explain, oftentimes chronic illness for people means they live with life-changing pain and illness even after they’ve seen all the mainstream western doctors and specialists possible.  They still suffer After they’ve done all the diet eliminations, gut healing and spiritual quests.  They’ve seen all the body workers, naturopaths, chiropractors that they can.  So for chronic illness sufferers, even after they’ve done all that they can, they still live with disability, and oftentimes that disability is invisible, and so therefore, also often unrecognized.  In my class I’ll present case studies of different chronic illness sufferers that have microdosed psilocybin to help find the sacred and spiritual in the often-mundane, day to day moments of life.  I will also share how they microdosed psilocybin to improve their quality of life.  I want to make clear that I’m not stating that micro-dosing psilocybin fixes major health issues.  Maybe it does for some people, but not people that I have talked to.

I also caution people who state that micro-dosing psilocybin is not valuable – because they believe that a psilocybin macro-dose is a more sacred journey.  That can be an ableist statement.  Many able-bodied people are completely unable to fully wrap their minds around the issues, like pain and anxiety, that many chronically ill people live with every day.  Many people with chronic illnesses find a much higher quality of life micro-dosing psilocybin – and that improvement in quality of life, including being fully present in each moment of the day – may be the most sacred journey they have ever partaken in.

In my class, I’ll also cover what decriminalization means (which is not legalization).  And I’ll do a brief overview of the studies that show psilocybin to help depression, chronic pain, anxiety, addictions and more.

I look forward to seeing you!
